WHAT?!? CHRISTIAN CHANEY IS BACK?!?
The Mingos all-time leading scorer looks to add to his legacy
Christian Chaney scored the fastest goal in Forward Madison history on July 26, inside of 20 seconds against South Georgia Tormenta.
(And that was it, that’s the only important or interesting thing that happened in that game.)
He also became the Mingos all-time leading scorer, and record-setter for the most goals in a season, with 12. He scored the first and last goals for the Mingos in 2023 — the first at Omaha on opening day and the last in the playoffs at Northern Colorado.
He was also the last player Forward Madison announced on League One Day One in 2022, because he was undoubtedly the biggest name in a batch of big-name signings.
He was also the last returning player the Mingos announced today, because once again, he’s the biggest name — and the biggest surprise.
Don’t forget this tweet, on October 25:
We were all heartbroken but we get it — players of Chaney’s stature often move on to new challenges. But something shifted in the weeks since, and our #9 is coming back for another go-round.
What do you think of Forward Madison’s Day One? Last year they announced eight new signings; this year it’s eight guys returning to form the core of what we all hope will be a formidable team in 2024. Are you psyched? Disappointed? Curious about who else might be coming back, or coming in? Let us know in the comments, or over on Xwitter, or on the live Reddit thread we have going.
Watch your podcast feeds tonight — we’ll have a special episode with head coach Matt Glaeser and I’d love to include some of your comments as well!
