Forward Madison just announced that 6-foot-1 California native Timmy Mehl is returning for a second season with the Mingos. He had an impressive debut with the club, logging 72 clearances, 10 blocks, and 34 interceptions in 24 games.
He was also one of the anchors of arguably the best backline in USL League One, and particularly brought an impeccable accuracy in distribution. He went down with injury late in the season, and though Sam Brotherton filled in well, the difference was noticeable.
“Timmy was a solid contributor for us last season and has proven himself to be a top defender in our league,” said Head Coach Matt Glaeser. “We're fortunate to have a player of his experience and athleticism on our back line and we feel like he has even more to bring to our club in 2024.”
Mehl, 28, is a seasoned veteran of the USL. He kicked off his career by playing four years of collegiate soccer at Indiana University from 2015 through 2018. Mehl was selected to the All-Big Ten team twice before he ended up signing with North Carolina FC in 2019. After one season with NCFC, Mehl joined Loudoun United for two seasons where he made 39 appearances. For the 2022 season, Mehl played with the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, in which he logged two goals, 13 shots, and 85 clearances.
