FMFC pledges to raise funds for futsal courts; home opener is tomorrow!
The City of Madison Parks Department cut the ribbon on a new futsal court at Penn Park on the south side Thursday – the first of five to be added to parks around the city, with Forward Madison vowing to assist in fundraising for the construction of the next four.
“Since we launched in 2019, we've tried to be the community’s team,” Forward Madison Chief Operating Officer Conor Caloia said. “Today's the start of our commitment to work with the Madison Parks Foundation and our other partners to raise up to $50,000 a year in each of the next four years to build four more courts across the city of Madison … Our focus is getting more people active, more young people active, and more people playing the game of soccer.”
A press release from Forward Madison said the club will raise funds through community events, fundraising initiatives and corporate partnerships. Caloia said the Madison Parks Foundation will match up to $15,000 in donations. The Flock Soccer Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the Forward Madion supporters’ group, will also assist in fundraising.

Home opener is tomorrow! Here’s what to know.
It’s the first leg of the 2024 Henny Derby! Richmond Kickers are off the a slow start in the league, but rode some momentum from a 5-2 win over the Maryland Bobcats in the second round of the US Open Cup to get their first league win, 3-2 over Fuego.
Kickoff is at 6.
Christian Chaney will not be available due to a calf injury. Cherif Dieye is also not yet here from Senegal due to a delay in getting his visa approved.
Looks like the crowd will be decent, but also looks like there are plenty of tickets available.
Rob and Alex will both be there — if you see us, say hey!
Did you miss this week’s episode?
Ok, no problem, here you go.
Rob and Alex talk through that rather ugly 2-0 loss to Chicago Fire 2 and look ahead to the Henny Derby. Then, a familiar voice joins the show: USL League One commentator Ross Devonport chats with Rob about being unexpectedly thrust into soccer analysis nearly 15 years ago, the early league season, and just how the commentators tell who's who on the pitch. And in Stoppage Time, some non-soccer, non-Badger options for Madison sports fans.
